The challenge with radiation therapy for breast cancer is its effect on the patient’s heart. It has been pointed out that cardiovascular diseases may be induced following treatment, and attempts are being made to reduce cardiac exposure to a minimal extent. Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH) is reported to be particularly effective. The technique seeks to dilate the lung with a deep inspiration breath hold to ensure a distance between the target and the heart.
